Important: Beware of Fraudulent Communications Impersonating Our Firm or Our Attorneys

Important Notice

 

We have recently become aware of cases in which individuals have used the name of our Firm or the names of attorneys affiliated with our Firm without authorization, falsely representing that our Firm has been retained in connection with a matter or that a communication has been sent by our Firm, and requesting payment or personal information.

 

These incidents are entirely unrelated to our Firm, and neither our Firm nor any of its attorneys or staff are involved in them.

 

Please take note of the following precautions.

 

Cases Identified to Date

-　A person falsely represented that an attorney at our Firm had been retained in connection with a matter and demanded payment from a third party purportedly involved in that matter.

-　A person used the name of our Firm to send suspicious emails concerning alleged “intellectual property infringement” or similar claims from an email address that did not use our Firm’s domain.

 

Other fraudulent methods may also be used in the future. Please exercise caution if you receive any suspicious telephone calls, emails, or messages via social media platforms such as LINE or Facebook from anyone claiming to represent our Firm or any of its attorneys or staff.

 

Practices Our Firm Does Not Engage In

Neither our Firm nor any of its attorneys will:

 

-　Ask you to transfer money to an account held in the name of a third party, rather than an account held in the name of our Firm or one of our attorneys;

-　Ask you to pay legal fees using prepaid cards or cryptocurrency;

-　Accept an engagement or request payment solely through social media platforms such as LINE or Facebook; or

-　Accept an engagement without first meeting with the client, including by online meeting, and entering into a written engagement agreement.

 

If You Receive a Suspicious Communication

If you receive an unexpected communication or request for payment from anyone claiming to represent our Firm or one of our attorneys, please do not respond immediately or provide the sender with any personal information.

 

Instead, please contact our Firm directly using the contact details listed below—not the contact details provided in the suspicious communication—to verify its authenticity.

 

If you have suffered, or believe you may be at risk of suffering, financial or other harm, please contact your nearest police station or the Police Consultation Hotline at #9110.

 

To help us identify similar incidents and prevent their recurrence, we would also appreciate it if you could report any suspicious communications to our Firm.

 

Regarding Inquiries to Our Firm

As attorneys, we are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

 

Accordingly, in response to inquiries from anyone other than the person concerned, we are unable to confirm or disclose individual facts or circumstances, including whether we have been retained by a particular person or whether any payments have been made or received.
